Saint Gobain beefs up portfolio with acquisition of German moulder

Paris-headquartered Saint-Gobain has finalised the acquisition of LS Kunststofftechnologie, a German moulder of components for the automotive, medical and industrial markets. This is Saint Gobain group’s fourth acquisition over two years. The others were US companies that are involved in the medical sector: American Fluoroseal Corporation (a manufacturer of fluoropolymer bags for medical use and sterile sampling systems for pharmaceutical manufacturing processes); Applied Bioprocess Containers (a supplier of single use containers and fluid transfer systems for the biopharmaceutical industry) and Twin Bay Medical (a manufacturer of flexible tube retainers and single-use components for biopharmaceuticals manufacturing).

Set up in 1985, LS Kunststofftechnologie is headquartered in Wertheim, near Frankfurt. It has two production sites, one in Wertheim and the other in Neuhaus, near Erfurt, and more than 220 employees.

LS co-develops tailor-made solutions in response to its customers' specific requirements and has expertise in design, tooling, testing and the processing of high-temperature polymers. The addition of LS to Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics will help boost international sales of its products.

Saint Gobain says the purchase is a perfect fit with the group's strategy of “strengthening its positions in high-performance and co-developed solutions.”

With 2012 sales of EUR43.2 billion, Saint-Gobain operates in 64 countries and has nearly 193,000 employees. A world leader in high-performance plastics, Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics is headquartered in Aurora, Ohio (US). The company employs nearly 5,200 employees in 17 countries. Its product offer includes films, foams, coated fabrics, bearings, seals and fluid systems.
