Verstraete to expand capacity

Belgian in-mould labelling supplier Verstraete IML is adding on three new printing presses into use by March 2015, representing a 20% increase in production capacity. One of these is a UV press: a new technology that will extend its reach. According to CEO Koen Verstraete, “We currently meet 80% of our customers’ requirements. As number one our goal is 90%. This will be possible with the innovative UV technology, because it can also be used for high-gloss labels and reverse print (printing on the back of the label). In this way we can serve two new markets in one stroke.

The firm is also expanding its production space by 2,400 sq m, adding that “new machines need more production space, which is why we are constructing a brand new building in 2014 and 2015 at our site in Maldegem.” The ground floor will become additional production space and the first floor will provide room for more offices. This infrastructure expansion will enable it to achieve its growth plan. It is scheduled to be in use by January 2016, said Koen.

Furthermore, the company has added on 80 more jobs this year. “We strive to offer added value in the packaging industry, with proactive technical advice. For that reason we consciously invest in the talent of our people. We mould them into specialists who use their professional knowledge to make the difference. This year our staff is has been growing at all levels of the company,” adds Koen.

He also said that the maximum capacity needs to be increased to accommodate the growth the firm expects from sales of EUR100 million to EUR180 million by 2020. “We also want to be able to react quickly and we strive for a delivery period of two to three weeks,” he added.
