KraussMaffei’s 50th machine for Chinese auto parts maker

German firm KraussMaffei recently delivered the 50th WinCap machine to an automotive component supplier in China. KraussMaffei engineered the first electric mould carriers for the automotive industry around six years ago. Over 100 machines are now being used globally to encapsulate windows and glass covers and also to backfoam interior trims and other automotive components.

The new WinCap mould carrier generation was revamped this year. The first four of these mould carriers will be shipped to China together with the 50th machine for encapsulating windows. The upgraded mould carriers provide machine operators with additionally improved ergonomics and user-friendliness since all mould carrier movements and mould functions can be freely programmed via a touch panel. Three set positions of the lifting frame can be used for different mould heights. Large moulds can also be moved quickly and securely by using a flat belt with a deflection roller for the lifting function. Workpieces can now be fixed even more easily to the carrier. The clamping force is generated pneumatically over the entire mould fixing area. The standardised modular design basically ensures short assembly and commissioning times.

Together with the reduced travel time due to the parallel mould carrier movements and the high travel speeds, short cycle times and high productivity are guaranteed for every application, says the German firm. The other advantages include low energy consumption and a low noise level thanks to electric drive units. The mould can also be changed from the front and back, and little maintenance is required. Every mould carrier position can be set flexibly via the control cabinet. A large number of other equipment options, e.g. additional mould functions, different safety variants, customer-specific mould attachment or flexible adaptation to many different machine concepts complete the extensive performance profile of the WinCap series.
